Dear Journal Sentinel Anthony Witrado is a douchebag and you should probably fire him
August 6th, 2009Hey. Journal Sentinel, what's up? It's your boy, Miller Park Drunk. How's it going? Yeah, that whole death of print thing really sucks. Oh, that's funny!
Listen, let's get down to business here. I am here to talk serious business. I am here to talk about the sports section of your paper. You have this guy writing for the Brewers who is absolutely terrible. I am not kidding. He sucks. He blows. He is quite possibly the worst beat writer in the entire MLB. Did you know there are teams in Baltimore and Oakland? There is! And these teams that are located in WAR ZONES have better beat writers than Anthony Witrado. There's something wrong with this picture right? I know we've been through this before. I know that we (and everyone else that cares about the Brewers) have said this before, but this time it's serious. Anthony Witrado should be fired.
This time he is not just being a terrible writer. He's not making typos. He's not wearing his hat to the side while wearing FUBU. He's not saying stupid things. (Well, he's still doing all of those things actually. Even going so far as to say "Prince could be costing himself a lot of money right now" which considering there are at least three murderers (and soon to include a dog murderer) with big contracts in the NFL is a bit far fetched.) This time he is attacking a Brewers player and the Brewers organization. This time he is throwing them under the bus for no real reason other than to advance his own agenda. Does he want to parlay this into an Around the Horn guest shot? I wouldn't really be surprised. I mean, you do know what the job of your beat writers is right? It's to report on what's going on with the team. It's to present the facts. It's to deliver the news to the fans. It's not to bury the players. In fact that goes against the very nature of the job. If you are sitting there calling Prince Fielder immature and saying he needs to grow up on a national forum (coming from a guy who wears FUBU to work), guess what? He probably doesn't want to interview with you in the future. Then you can't do your job. If Prince says to his friends on the team "hey screw that guy" and they listen, A-dub can't do his job. So what then? He's not a good enough writer to write an opinion column and his minimable value comes from following the team. If he can't do that, he can't work.
I am not even going to get into the part that I can write better game recaps, that the people at Brew Crew Ball DO write better game recaps, that wezen-ball writes better whilst sleeping, that anyone could write better game recaps than this guy. I am not going to get into the part where there are like 500 Brewers blogs out there and the one with two professional journalists, team access and 401ks is just about the worst. I am not going to touch that stuff. The point is that Anthony Witrado thinks he's better than the Brewers, better than Prince Fielder and better than the fans. Yet he doesn't do his job. He sucks at his job. To use the most overused phrase out there right n0w, in this economy can you really afford to keep a guy like Tony W around? I say no. There are too many talented writers without jobs to keep an untalented one employed.
