We make the case to Roy Halladay

royhalladayRoy Halladay was more or less put on the trade block this week. Trading for Roy Halladay would definitely shut Braun up and fulfill the dreams of many fans. The Brewers would basically trade for the best pitcher available, one of the top 5 pitchers in baseball, two years in a row. There is no way they can do this without it having a serious effect on the future of the team. Does that mean they shouldn't do it? That's hard to say. With Halladay locked up for next year too, we immediately become contenders this year and next. Make no mistake about it, this would be as close as we'll ever get to trading for CC two years in a row. This trade is like that last shot you take at bar time. It's AWESOME and it might get you laid, but holy cow you will regret it later.

Me? I love Roy Halladay. He's been one of my favorite pitchers since I had him in fantasy baseball three years ago. ERA+ isn't a perfect stat, but Halladay hasn't been below average since the year 2000. He's been an above average starter since before Miller Park opened, think about that. He is crazy, crazy good. NINE COMPLETE GAMES! Plus, I love doing things that are mind blowingly awesome that end up coming back to haunt you later. That's why I have a kid.

But as Rob Base has taught us, it takes two. Halladay has a no-trade clause and he'd have to be convinced to come to Milwaukee, but we think we can take care of that for you. Continue reading →

Miller Park Drunk Silver Lining: Casey McGehee

The Brewers haven't been playing that good lately and it's hard to get excited about the team. Maybe the games on TV don't feel as "can't miss" as they used to, maybe you aren't in as big of a rush to leave the parking lot as you normally are or maybe you don't update your popular blog as much as you normally do. Try and remember, there are good things going on with this team even if they aren't winning.

We got Casey McGehee from the Cubs, for nothing. Nothing. He is currently hitting .344 with a .925 OPS. That's good. Do you think the Cubs miss him? Do we like having him? That's an excellent silver lining right there. Casey McGehee being a Brewer helps us and hurts the Cubs, that's awesome. Know what else is awesome? These FUN FACTS about Casey McGehee.

  • Casey McGehee went to Fresno State. Other famous Fresno State alums include Pauly Shore, former Rams coach Mike Martz and Skip-2-my-lou Rafer Alston.

  • Casey's birthday is October 12th. Other notable people born on October 12th: Hugh Jackman and Kirk Cameron.kirk-cameron
  • Casey isn't that bad at defense either.
  • Despite being older than him, Craig Counsell is his son.
  • Casey is not exactly what you might call "buff" or "in shape", which always makes you like a player a bit more. There's just something about a player that would easily beat you in a wing eating contest.
    casey
  • He's not Bill Hall. Bill Hall is currently hitting below .200. Yikes.
  • He's cheap: Casey is still under team control and won't take up much payroll for the next few years.
  • Casey McGehee can sneeze with his eyes open.

I like the guy!

The fail that is the JSOnline Brewers Fan Photo Gallery

If you haven't had the pleasure chance to see the JSOnline's user submitted Brewers fan photo gallery than you are REALLY missing out. I've invited my good friend Brewers Baby to help me comment on some of these photos.I should warn you, Brewers Baby can get a little vulgar at times. What can I say? He's a baby. He poops his pants and pees himself. Babies are stupid.

Happy Memorial Day

For those of you going to the game (and are actually probably already there), good for you. For the rest of us, let's party.

cheesefries

I am what I call a closet patriot. You wouldn't know it by looking at me, but I am one of the more patriotic people you'll ever meet. I've cried at military movies, bought random veterans drinks (not recommended), listened to a Trace Adkins song unironically (not reccommended) and generally been very proud to live in America. I'll defend the awesomeness of America to anyone who will listen (which is another reason Al's Ramblings is awesome, btw.) It's simply the greatest place in the world to live. We get to do what we want, drink when we want, eat what we want, go to as many Brewers games as we want and then say what we want about it. What else can you ask for (besides cheese fries)?

Happy Memorial Day.
