Announcement: What the Bucks

Off-Base September 14th, 2010

You may have noticed a lack of posting in the past couple weeks here. There are a couple of reasons for this. For one, we're still nursing a hangover from the Pants Party. (Have I mentioned how awesome that was? Check out the photo album!) The other main thing that has been slowing us down is our development of a spinoff website. That's right, Miller Park Drunk is getting it's own Joey. Never again will you have to worry about "Bradley Center Drunk" lurking his head around these parts again because we now have our very own Bucks blogs.

(*waits for applause*)

(*gives up*)

I'm sure you have questions so we will attempt to answer them here. Read the rest of this entry »

Bradley Center Drunk returns

Off-Base April 27th, 2010

During the offseason I wrote about the Bucks a couple of times. There was this faux chat that turned all too real (then again predicting Redd and Bogut to get hurt isn't that big of a gamble) and this long, beautiful love letter to Brandon Jennings which is one of my favorite things I've ever written here. Here's what I said then, just three games into the new season.

Brandon Jennings is the most important athlete in Wisconsin not named Rodgers, Fielder or Braun.

There, I said it. It's out there and I can't take it back. After watching the Bucks take on the Chicago Bulls last night, I feel this stronger than anything I've felt since I said that The Happy Youngster was a douchebag. I've made my fair share of Bucks jokes in the past and I've even made fun of Brandon Jennings before, but I had no idea he was this good. I had no idea that he'd be, within three games, the best point guard the Bucks have had since Sam Cassell flew away on his spaceship.

And now here we are. Tied 2-2 in an NBA playoff series which means that the BUCKS are in the playoffs. Crazy, right? This is a team that drafted Joe Alexander and Yi Jianlian as serious lottery picks. A team that hasn't had a winning season since 2002-2003. This not only was not supposed to happen like this, it wasn't supposed to happen at all. Yet here we and there's a pretty good chance I completely underrated Brandon Jennings.

I was at the Bradley Center and it was rocking like I've never seen it before. The crowd was electric all night and there is no doubt in my mind that Josh Smith has serious regrets about ever saying a thing about Milwaukee. (How did he not get a technical in the second quarter?) Would any of this have happened without Brandon Jennings? We can talk about all day about John Hammonds making great moves all season long. Delfino, Salmons, Stackhouse, but it all starts with Brandon Jennings. He singlehandedly turned the tables of this franchise and the more and more I think about it I can't believe that Brandon Jennings is a Buck. Guys like Brandon Jennings just aren't supposed to be Bucks, like guys like Ryan Braun aren't supposed to be Brewers. Read the rest of this entry »

Brandon Jennings and the Bucks

Off-Base November 17th, 2009

According to an extremely small sample size of my twitter followers the Bucks aren't quite back, but Brandon Jennings definitely has their attention. Following one player over the rest of the team seems about par for the course for an NBA team so this isn't very surprising. Personally I make no qualms about liking the Bucks now specifically because of this one player so I don't really have a problem with it. He's awesome and it's certainly better than not liking the Bucks at all right? But the more I thought about it, the more I thought that while this sort of behavior is perfectly acceptable for you and me maybe the rest of the Bucks players don't feel the same way. Everyone I talk to says that the past few games at the Bradley Center have been the loudest they have been to in years and it's all because of this one guy. That can't do much for Andrew Bogut's self esteem, right? Then again, what do I know about the Bucks locker room? It's not like I have ever been inside of it, recording their conversations and dictating them on the internet. OR HAVE I. Read the rest of this entry »

Going to an Admirals game is like going to a Brewers game at a County Stadium

Off-Base November 6th, 2009

millerparkdarkThere is a deep hole in my soul right now. It's been about two months now since I have been to Miller Park and the hole is pretty big. I've been trying to fill it up with something,  anything, but nothing seems to be working. I've tried it all yoga, reading, crack cocaine, PCP, shadowboxing, jogging (pronounced yogging), everything and nothing seems to work. Perhaps it was divine intervention, perhaps something else but last week I got invited to go on a bus to a Milwaukee Admirals game. Could this be the thing to fill the hole in my life?

In a word, no. In a lot of words, sort of. Let's look at the facts. Read the rest of this entry »
