10 Reasons You Should Stop Worrying About the Brewers

There is a good chance the Milwaukee Brewers 2012 season is cursed. I mean, what other possible explanation is there for all of the injuries they have suffered lately? Was Miller Park built on an Indian burial ground and the lost souls are having their revenge? Did Ron Roenicke date a witch? Or maybe the Brewers left a crappy tip for their waitress at Buffalo Wild Wings and now the guy from the commercial (who has a crush on said waitress) is getting his revenge on the team? I've searched high and low for an answer to what is happening to this team right now, but I'm not having much luck finding an answer that makes sense.

To make matters worse they haven't been winning, going 3-7 over their last ten games. The losses haven't been pretty either. Shut out by Jeff Suppan. The Dillard game aka the first true "Fire Ron Roenicke" game of the season. Yesterday's homerun derby. Don't even get me started on the road trips to Atlanta and St. Louis. Its been crappy, no fun and the opposite of Batman.

But does that mean the Brewers are done? Are they doomed? Should they start selling their assets and building for the future? Is it time to give up? The answer to these questions and more is: No, are you frickin' kidding me? To prove my point here is ten reasons why you should relax: Continue reading »

We Love Ryan Braun

Heading into last night's game Ryan Braun was hitting .263/.322/.500 with four homeruns and three steals. Not exactly MVP numbers, but if your entire team is hitting like that you are probably leading the league in offense. He's been good, but he hasn't been great which is to say he hasn't been Ryan Braun. Much like the Brewers record he has been merely okay. Last night he changed that. Last night Ryan Braun did for the Brewers what the Aliens did for Woody and the gang at the end of Toy Story 3, he picked them up and he carried them away from the incinerator.

It was one of "those games" that only a special player like Ryan Braun can have. He hits the first one and you're glad, but you're not surprised. Ryan Braun was the MVP last season, he hits homeruns. Then he hits the second one and you're like "jesus maybe he is on steroids" "I have never seen a ball hit that far in my entire life, that was amazing." The next time he steps up to bat you are excited. You WANT something to happen, but you don't expect it. You think he's done enough, but you want him to do it again. Wouldn't that be cool? You know he can and all you can think of is how awesome it would be if he did. AND THEN HE DOES and it's more awesome than you think. Ryan Braun is trending worldwide. You celebrate. You pump your fist. You shotgun a beer. You wave your hands in the air like you just don't care. Continue reading »

The Best Milwaukee Brewers Blog In The World

Miller Park Drunk is the Shepherd Express 2012 Winner for Best Sports Blog.

I got the invite in the mail to this party while I was in Miami for Wrestlemania. I read it, decided not to go and then I didn't really think about it again until yesterday when Tyler asked me if I wanted to go to the party, you know, just in case we won. Again, I decided not to go and instead we went to a Brewers game. The truth is I didn't want to go. I just had all these thoughts running through my head about it.
Do I have to bring a date? Who would that be? What? No, not her. Oh, like you've never slept over at a girl's house and been woken up by her kid. Shut up.
What if I didn't win, wouldn't that be a colossal waste of time? What if I did win? Would I have to give a speech? Would my speech get me laid by my date? Who is that going to be again? What if my speech sucked and I didn't get laid?

It just seemed like too much of a hassle for a web award, honestly. Who cares right? I don't need any validation, I'm a man! Well, today I found out that we won and I was surprised at just how happy it made me.

Look, I know in the grand scheme of things that this award doesn't really mean anything. It definitely doesn't mean that this blog is "better" than any of the other blogs out there or that I am an amazing writer. (To be fair, I am.) It just means that people like reading this thing and I think that's pretty cool. I've been calling this "the best Milwaukee Brewers blog in the world" for awhile now, but that was mostly just pro-wrestling style posturing. The fact that some people actually believe that in real life is a pretty cool thing and I really do appreciate that. I'll try to update more just for you guys. How does twice a month sound?

Okay, I guess this is the part where I thank people. I'd like to thank the rest of Team MPD which is basically just Tyler and Steph. I think you two are really cool and funny so when you two tell me how cool and funny you think I am I believe it. You should tell me that more often actually. That one time just isn't cutting it. I'd like to thank Ryan Braun for giving me so much material to work with, but then testing positive for something and forcing me to re-evaluate my feelings on him thus giving me even more material. All our best posts are about you, buddy. I'd like to thank Prince Fielder for doing that McDonalds commercial as a kid. I'd like to thank Doug and Mark for putting together a team that is so worthwhile to write about. If this was a Pirates blog I would have gave up a long time ago. (Remember when I did that Bucks blog for like a week? lol.) I'd like to thank the state of Wisconsin for being the best state in the world and, of course, I'd like to thank all of the readers.

Thanks to those of you who comment on stuff we do. Like Tuco who actually wrote the sentence "Vince is a kinder gentler human these days" in my defense and apparently meant it or SconnieGirl808 who I have been missing lately. I read every comment and I appreciate all of them. Thanks to the person on reddit who said I was a great guy. (Seriously, where do you guys get this from?) Thanks to all my people on twitter. I did twitter for awhile and thought it was stupid, but ever since the playoffs last year I can't quit you. You make watching a baseball game alone at home on my laptop fun. An additional thanks goes out to the twitter people for getting @millerparkdrunk to trend in Milwaukee during Braun's speech in spring training. That was neat! (I think.) Thanks to the other blogs who shout out to us and do the real analysis so we can do that thing we do. Let me know if you ever want to get weird. Thanks to everyone who came to the Pants Party two years ago and everyone who is going to come to this year's party (COMING SOON I PROMISE.) It was fun doing keg stands in my boxers with you guys. Just thanks to everyone who likes this. Seriously, thanks I mean it.

Finally, I'd like to thank the team of programmers who created the program that voted for this site more than any other. No way we could have won this award without you!

Alright, that's all I got. Real posts coming soon.

Miller Park Drunk’s Milwaukee Brewers Season Preview Hashtag Opening Day

Opening Day is here.

I guess this means it's time for me to stop being a baby and get over the way last season ended. This would be easy if it wasn't for the ___ ____Cardinals winning the ___ ____ World _______ Series and then (and then!) watching them open the season by winning without one of the greatest hitters (and __holes of all time) or their ___hole manager. The Cardinals are in first place right now and that is honestly the last thing I want to hear right now. I'd even rank it ahead of "I'm pregnant" and "Your herpes seemed to have evolved into some sort of super herpes." The Cardinals winning last night was a bigger downer than Daniel Bryan losing in 18 seconds, but....

It's a new season. A new day. Yesterday doesn't matter. Last season is nothing, but a page in the history books because the only thing that matters now is now because we can't change the past. Marty and Doc can't go back in time and make Shaun Marcum go on the DL before game 6. The only thing we can do in this life is move on from our past mistakes and do the very best we can in our present and future. That's why I stopped drinking vodka-Red Bulls. Yesterday is gone, the future is now and guess what? The Brewers are going to be pretty freakin' awesome this year. Our future is looking bright. So bright I gotta wear shades. Continue reading »

The World Belongs to Ryan Braun

Ryan Braun won the MVP award last week.

Woo-frackin'-hoo.

There is an argument to be made, a very good one in fact, that Matt Kemp should have won the MVP award. He had more homeruns, more steals, played a tougher position, had a better WAR and a bunch of other stuff too. Matt Kemp had a great season and if you said he should have won the MVP I wouldn't argue with you too much. These two players were very close statistically and either choice was a good one.

The justification that many are using for the choice of Braun over Kemp is that the Ryan Braun played on a playoff team and Matt Kemp didn't. This speaks to the question of what exactly the word "valuable" in Most Valuable Player is supposed to mean. Many writers who vote on these awards take the word valuable and equate it with wins and losses. Since the Brewers won a ton more games than the Dodgers that made Ryan Braun more "valuable" than Matt Kemp. This is a simple argument that is backed up by years of MVP voting going to players from winning team. It is not wrong to think this and since the word "valuable" has never been properly defined by Major League Baseball it is hard to fault the writers for voting this way. It's just the way it's always been and the way it will always be. Winners get more credit.

However, this is not why I believe Ryan Braun won the MVP. It helped, sure, but it is not the real reason that Braun was chosen over Matt Kemp. The reason I submit to you as the reason Ryan Braun won the MVP is simple: The World Belongs To Ryan Braun. Continue reading »
