The Houston Astros head into Miller Park this weekend looking to improve on their NL Central worst 7-12 record. We don't think they will. The Milwaukee Brewers currently sit at 9-9, but it's a "hey we should probably be better than this" 9-9. The Brewers currently sit one game back in the race for the NL Central and a sweep could help them in a big way. The Brewers will send their three best pitchers to the mound in this series and look to build on their strong early season home record. That's right after raising ticket prices in 2008 (because they were good) and 2009 (because they made the playoffs in 2008), the Brewers will not raise ticket prices in 2010 (because they sucked). Let's go to Mark A for the story:

Despite investing approximately $50 million in free-agent pitchers and assembling a team with the highest payroll during my six-year tenure as principal owner, we only marginally improved our pitching, and our offense, while potent, was inconsistent.

Mailbag Monday: Fire Ken Macha
Last night I went to the Brewers game with wezen-ball and on the drive home I formulated in my head an entire post that I wanted to write about the Brewers recent home stand. I was all set to write it right when I got home. Then I got home and decided to write it in the morning, but I was going to get up extra early to write it. I set my alarm for early in the morning and was all set to wake up and write about the Brewers, but then the morning came and I hit snooze and slept til 11:30.
This is how watching the Brewers can make you feel. I don't want to stop watching them, I don't want to stop supporting them and I don't want to stop doing this blog, but I just don't feel any sense of urgency to do any of those things. It's tough. Outside of Trevor Hoffman, I don't really want anyone to lose their job. I don't hate them, they just make me say "ehh" and that is a place you don't want to be. I imagine that some of you are in a much worse place than I am when it comes to this team. That's why I have prepared this mini-FAQ on the Brewers suckitude.
Do the Brewers suck?
Right now, yes. Overall, probably not.
Should I throw in the towel on the playoffs?
No, but you should probably pick up the towel and be prepared to throw it. This team does have a good, long stretch of winning baseball ahead of it. It's impossible for them not to (my guess is July). They haven't even played the Astros yet and have barely played 1/4 of the season. Still, seven games under .500 is seven games under .500 and at some point you can get too far back.
Should I boo them?
No. Booing is stupid and only makes them want to play their games somewhere besides Miller Park. Why should Pittsburgh get all the Brewers wins? That's not fair.
Why do the Brewers hate Milwaukee?
I think they're pissed because the Wisconsin weather teased us with an early summer with beautiful weather in early April followed by cold weather for the next six weeks. I honestly can't say I blame them.
Should we fire Ken Macha?

Calm down McClung Nation
After reading this great interview at Right Field Bleachers with Seth McClung and reading the comments of my last post I felt the need to address McClung Nation. Seeing as this was the only blog name dropped in the article.
Seth McClung is "just a guy that’s very fortunate to play baseball". He's genuine, he's down to earth, he's a good person. He's what we'd all like to think we'd be like if we played baseball. He's not Ryan Braun who, based on reactions we've gotten in the past year, is a douchebag that you wouldn't want anything to do with if he couldn't hit a baseball. He's not Alcides Escobar who from all accounts abandoned his wife and daughter and he's not Trevor Hoffman, a first ballot Hall of Famer who has played since some of you were born and made millions of dollars. Seth McClung was someone we could all relate to as a human being and that's pretty cool. I believe all of these things and I think Seth was a pretty cool guy during his time in Milwaukee. He really tried to connect with the fans and his twitter was always entertaining, be it for the things he said or the way he spelled them.
(Speaking of twitter, this line in the interview was kind of bullshit. "I apologize to whoever Miller Park Drunk is about my misspelling things on there. I’m sorry that you don’t understand that 140 characters is usually 140 characters and I don’t really have a great spell check on my phone, but I hope everybody enjoyed it as much as I did and I enjoyed the fans. It was just my way of connecting." I do understand the character limit and that doesn't really make up for the fact that honored isn't spelled honerred and memory isn't spelled memorey (via) and a thousand other examples I could come up with if the account still existed. Either way, I was just making a joke and his spelling had no effect on my feelings towards him as a person or a player. So you're bad at spelling, who cares? There's no need for excuses. I'm bad at writing a blog. It doesn't matter. We're both good guys.)
Seth, along with his so-called doppleganger Todd Coffey, ranks highly on my 2009 Brewers I'd like to drink with and that's just about the highest compliment that I can give to someone. Retro Weekends are going to be awesome
I love Retro Friday at Miller Park. Some out there will rail against it saying that we need to leave the past in the past and that the team needs to forge it's own identity and blah blah blah, to which I say screw off. Saying we should get rid of the ball and glove logo is like saying we should get rid of the American flag. You know who wants to get rid of the American flag? Terrorists.
Luckily for us and the safety of our nation, the Brewers agree with me. In fact they are taking retro Fridays into the future for their 40th anniversary and turning them into four retro weekends. Let me tell you, they sound AWESOME. Continue reading
