Your weekend over and unders

caged_lionIt's been a strange week in Miller Park Drunk land. A long baseball conversation with Al's Ramblings. More Happy Youngster jokes. All-Star lineups. Finding out that someone else is taking credit for Coffey's music. (That one hurt.) Calling out Mike Cameron on the untuck. It's been fun. Unfortunately, watching Brewers games lately hasn't been. These sorts of these things happen from time to time over a 162 game season. You win three straight, you lose 3 of 4, you win a few more. It's nothing to get excited about. How about that homerun Prince hit yesterday though? Could he have picked a deeper part of the ballpark? Crazy power there.

The Crew (this is how I like to say it, what's up with those people who say Blue Brew Crue? I mean, really?) begin a three game series against the Braves this weekend. The Braves have under gone a makeover this week releasing all-time Brave Tom Glavine, acquiring Nate McClouth and calling up pitcher Tommy Hanson. This isn't exactly the series you'd want come off losing three of four, but you take what you're given and like it in the Major Leagues. The MLB is like Oliver Twist that way.

Anyways, for those of you watching the games  this weekend here's a few things to look out for and bet on with your friends.

Weekend O/Us

  • 15: FSN mentions of their Twitter page.
    Speaking of Twitter, our friend and yours Tom Haudricourt is now on Twitter and occasionally posts.. things. Today he tweeted that rumors in Boston have them getting JJ Hardy. I think it's pretty ridiculous that someone with access to the general manager would post something like this. The Boston media thinks of the rest of the majors as their farm system, but fails to realize that a contending team wouldn't trade one of their keys guys in a pennant race. That's fine. What's not fine is the Milwaukee writer who doesn't even realize it. What an idiot.
  • 3: Times Tommy Hanson is called a "phenom", "future star" or "whiz".
  • 85: Times you hear the name "Nate McClouth". Trust me they are going to go on and on and on about this.
  • 13: Beers I drink tonight.
  • 5: Bill Hall strikeouts.
  • 1: Times Joe Mauer tells Elton John he's a top, not a catcher.
  • 2: Times a Brewers leaves the game early. Seriously, it seems like this has been happening every game!
  • 3: People who skip our grilling guide and still pour the gas over the metal. Bastards.

Alright, that's enough of that. We're going away for the weekend. Maybe take the boy to the zoo since the Brewers are out of town. Afterall, it's never too early to teach your son what monkeys having sex looks like.

The Miller Park Drunk E-Mail Show with Al of Al’s Ramblings, Part 2

chevychaseshowWe now bring you part two of our e-mail conversation with Al of Al's Ramblings for The Miller Park Drunk E-Mail Show. Part two is a bit longer than part 1 as we get into Rickie Weeks, Mike Cameron, post-2009, potential trades, JJ Hardy, Manny Parra and the future of the team. We started to hit a groove towards the end there and we're happy with the results. This is probably the most actual analysis you'll ever see us do, so enjoy it while you can.

MPD: Bill Hall is a great example of casual fans not thinking things through. Bill Hall was beloved for hitting those 35 home runs, then was considered an overpaid let down (both with the bat and the glove) as a center fielder. Last season he was routinely booed, the fans wanted Branyan and his numbers didn't do much to prove anyone wrong. Now here we are in 2009 and he's the same player he was last year, but now he should be the starting second baseman. How does that make sense?

Last night, I didn’t get to sleep at all

AC/DC Hells BellsI wrote a post yesterday about how last night's game was going to be the greatest game ever. Now, maybe it wasn't the greatest game ever but for me it was the absolute perfect game to go to. Manny Parra started the day and he was off, walking people and giving up hits. At the end of two innings we were down 3-0. This meant that the team had to come from behind and Manny Parra need to straighten up. Both things happened.

Manny Parra threw the next four scoreless and ended up with 8 strikeouts. Prince Fielder and Rickie Weeks combined to hit three home runs to put the team in the lead and then Mike Cameron gave us one more for insurance. My two favorite players and my favorite Fielder all went yard and the team was rocking. It was, to me, the perfect game. Until that is the ninth inning came and it became Trevor Time. Then the game ascended to another level.

Trevor Time is something like I have never experienced before. For those of you who have never been there live for it, I hope that you one day get to do so. Last year, the team was awesome. No doubt about it, but in a close game in the ninth you were worried. You didn't expect to win. Especially with Gagne, less so with Torres but the thought always lingered. How will we blow this one? The thoughts have been there for years from Gagne to Cordero to Turnbow and on and on. This is not the case with Trevor Hoffman. People know that he is going to close the game out and the Brewers will win. It's just expected and that's something that you can't really quantify. It's a pretty awesome time to be a Brewers fan right now.

I <3 Mike Cameron

Mike CameronA good friend of mine hates Mike Cameron. I mean, HATES. He's one of these people that thinks strikeouts somehow count for more outs than any other out. I am not one of these people. I love people who are above average defensively, hit home runs and steal bases. I don't care if they strikeout as long as when they make contact it counts. Maybe this is from years of playing fantasy baseball, maybe it's because I like a little pain with my pleasure. Either way, I love Mike Cameron. After Rickie Weeks he's my favorite player on the team (I have issues.) Obviously I LOVED yesterday's game where he went 3-3 with 3 RBIs, two HRs, 3 Runs and a walk. (Of course, I don't really understand why he couldn't do this at the four games I went to (you'd think he'd want to impress his biggest fan), but I digress.) Mike Cameron playing like this at the beginning of the season where he has struggled throughout his career is something to get excited about. I can't believe the team ever seriously considered trading him for Melky Cabrera. Sure, it was a pure salary dump but do you realize that Cabrera is just a backup now (and before Nady got hurt the 2nd backup)? Mike Cameron is one of the top 5 Center fielders in the National League. That'd be like trading Alex P. Keaton for Skippy. Skippy isn't taking you to the playoffs. Or the homecoming dance. I don't know about you, but I want the Wolf.

Think about this in tailgating terms. You've got the whole set up. You start with the most important thing which is the beer (Ryan Braun), then you have the bags (Prince Fielder), the food (JJ Hardy and Corey Hart), your friends (Yovani, Weeks, Hall) and the close proximity to the port-o-potty (the bullpen, whoever I forgot). You are all set up for a good day at the park. You can have a good time with just these things, right? Of course, but isn't your day a lot better if someone brought chairs (Mike Cameron)? That's what Mike Cameron brings to the table. You don't necessarily need him, but you are a lot better off with him and at the end of the day a lot happier too.
