A Brief History of MPD Memes

In case you guys haven't figured this out by now I am down with internet memes. I like to stay current on them, I think they are funny and I like to figure out a way to integrate them into the Brewers. This is what led to the creation of LOLBREWERS, the official MPD tumblr. From Sad Keanu all the way to McKayla is not impressed I love them all. (Except for that overly attached girlfriend one. That one doesn't really do it for me/hits too close to home.) Memes are fun, even if they are a major cause of brain rot and in ten years people will communicate exclusively through a white Impact font with black outlines.

Over the years we've used quite a few here at the site and even created a few of our own. Since I have Chikara brain today (Which is tonight! Get your tickets! See you there!) and am having trouble stringing sentences together I thought I'd compile all we've done in the past in one handy, dandy post. So let's do that now. Continue reading »

Super Bowl XLV Preview

The Green Bay Packers play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the XLVth Super Bowl this Sunday and everyone is talking about it. You can't walk two feet without seeing something green, hearing about Aaron Rodgers or noticing someone in a Steelers sweatshirt that you had never seen them in before. Everyone has changed their facebook profile picture to a Packers player instead of themselves which, honestly, is a nice replacement for the self portrait they took with their cell phone camera. Most of the people I know can tell me, down to the minute, when the game starts. It's insane. You'd think that one of these teams was from Milwaukee. (What? Green Bay is where now? -Ed.)

I realize that it's completely pointless to try and mention the Milwaukee Brewers in this space until at least Tuesday. (If you really want to know my feelings on the Mark Kotsay signing look at this graph.) For one thing, they haven't even started spring training yet. For another, PACKERSPACKERSPACKERSPACKERSPACKERS. So if you can't beat them join them. I may not be an expert on the Green Bay Packers, but I am an expert on watching television, eating and drinking. We also know a bit about gambling, 8-2 in the playoffs, and are going for the Packers on Sunday. There is money at stake, we're just as excited as you are. The Green Bay Packers are going to the Super Bowl!!!

This is an exciting time for everyone in Wisconsin with even a passing interest in football and the next two weeks are going to be all football, all the time. The team that has dominated the Wisconsin sports landscape for the past 100 years will now attempt to take full control of our minds and souls with a win in the Super Bowl. THE MOST IMPORTANT SERIES OF THE SEASON

Some people think that this three game series is the most important series of the season. After all, anytime two disappointing, out of contention, under .500 teams meet in June for a mid-week three game series it has to be important, right?

Cubs fans and Brewers fans actually have a lot in common right now. They both want to fire their GM (that being said, I'd take Suppan and his contract over Soriano and his contract any day of the week, they still got four years of that guy). They both can't believe how many games their team has lost to the Pirates. They both were recently questioned by police in connection with a sexual assault at a Wrigleyville bar. They both expected their team to play at least .500. It's not been a good year so far for either team's fans and a win against the perceived "rivals" would go a long way towards healing a few wounds. Preparation for the MLB Draft

pejadraftWhen you watch the NBA draft: you know most of the names from following the college tournament. Unless, they are from a foreign country then you just pretend that you know whether you like or dislike the pick. (My advice is to always dislike it. Europeans are soft.) Towards the end of the first round you usually end up watching something else because the last few picks never end up mattering much. In the end you are excited to see how a guy turns out next year.

When you watch the NFL draft: you know most of the names because all ESPN does is talk about football 24 hours a day/7 days a week/365 days a year. I think the day after the Super Bowl last year they had a prediction show. You sit and watch the entire draft for 10-15 hours wondering where your life has gone. In the end you are excited to see how a guy turns out next year.

When you watch the NHL draft: lol nobody watches the NHL draft.

When you watch the MLB draft: you have pretty much no idea who anybody is and the announcers who are saying great pick or bad pick pretty much don't know either. You watch the first round until your team has picked or just leave it on in the background as you go online. In the end you are excited to see how a guy turns out in the next 2-5 years.
