Phillies bring home NL championship, Philly brings me gifts

In my "Who ya got?" post I wrote this about the Phillies:

if they win there is a good chance we will get another video like this which would be awesome because I LOVE this video.

God, I love that video.

Well, last night the Phillies locked up their 2nd straight NL championship becoming the first team in 13 years to go back to back in the National League. Quite the accomplishment. Not to be outdone, the city of Philadelphia has given us not one, not two, but THREE FIVE videos for our immense entertainment. Why did I ever root against these guys again? Continue reading →

Miller Park Drunk welcomes Rick Peterson

rickpetersonI've been a fan of Drew Rick Peterson for a long time. His approach to a pitching staff is a pretty simple one of throw strikes, don't walk people and don't give up homeruns. Oh, and don't get injured. I've argued in the past that it is injuries to pitchers, above all else, that cost the Brewers their 2009 season and sometimes I almost believe it. Rick Peterson, it seems, believes it too.

They won 80 games with a (rotation) ranked last in the league. If you can just get it to the middle of the pack, you're probably looking at 90 wins.

So we agree then? Awesome. Today, I read an old interview he did with Baseball Prospectus (which you should totally read) and found something that even Manny Parra can get excited about.

BP: Does this mean you need to be incredibly smart to pitch for the A's?

RP: No, not at all.

Clearly this is a great, great hire for the Brewers and I really couldn't be more excited about it. He wants to integrate an organizational philosophy on pitching, a philosophy that Doug Melvin also wants and I think he's the perfect man to do the job. His philosophy worked great in Oakland and then not so great in New York, but I always felt that was more to do with the Mets not being open to his ideas than anything he did. Give the "Big 3" all the credit you want to for his success, but the Brewers are putting his chances of success in Milwaukee in his own hands and I don't think he's going to let us down.

Peterson told the press that he couldn't wait to get started and would begin studying the current staff immediately. I imagine he's going to be watching a lot of video and then doing a report card of sorts. We here at Miller Park Drunk always want to do our best to help and have compiled a guide to the pitching performances that can help guide Peterson in his studies. What can I say? We're the giving sort. Continue reading →

Who ya got? 2009 MLB Playoffs

Red Sox Yankees BaseballWell, you aren't going to believe this but after last night's loss to the Rockies the Brewers have been eliminated from playoff contention. Even if the planes carrying the Dodgers, Cardinals, Rockies and Phillies crash into eachother the Brewers still won't make the playoffs. Sad, I know.

Anyways I just found out that the playoffs still happen if the Brewers don't make it and despite the Brewers not being in contention they will still hold a "World Series". I am interested in this and plan to watch these "playoffs" until their logical conclusion which I assume is called the "championship", I don't know I'm new to this whole baseball thing. I only started watching the Brewers last year. Since the Brewers aren't involved I thought we should figure out who we all want to root for and pretend that we were fans of this team for the next six months until the playoffs end. So let's get down to it. Continue reading →

Still mad? Let me make it up to you

isorryApparently some of you didn't like the whole selling out thing and honestly, we're sorry to hear that. I thought he did some interesting stuff even if he was a douchebag. (By the way, did you catch my review of Wrigleyworld? It may have been lost amongst the idiocy, but I am rather proud of it.) However, you should all be happy to know that I have returned the Playboy with Sable on the cover along with the fifty bucks and we won't be seeing Chad around here for a long, long time.

Anyways, you're mad. I'm sorry. Let me make it up to you. Continue reading →
